My name is Rebecca Hoffman. I am a rising senior at James Madison University where I am  working towards a Bachelor of Arts in Public History.

The National Park Service and especially Civil War parks are my passion and this summer I am an intern at Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, where the American Civil War ended over 150 years ago. While I am at Appomattox I will be learning how to give interpretive talks, demonstrations of the printing presses like those used to print paroles for the Confederates in 1865, and lead tours to the McClean house where General Lee surrendered to General Grant.

I will also be portraying Jennie Peers, who was the wife of the clerk of the court George Peers in 1865, in the living history program. Jennie was present in the village with her husband and small children on April 9th, and subsequently her family were witnesses to an incredibly pivotal moment in American history.
